Principal Keyboard of Hong Kong Sinfonietta
Mr. Alan Chu is currently the Principal Keyboard of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the President of the World Piano Teachers Association Hong Kong, and the Chairman of the International Association of Collaborative Musicians. He has collaborated with prestigious ensembles such as Camerata Salzburg, Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, King's College Choir Cambridge, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Hong Kong City Contemporary Dance Company, Hong Kong Symphonia, and Hong Kong Virtuosi.
Mr. Chu obtained his Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees with First-Class Honours from The Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music respectively. He was also trained as an Erasmus scholar at the Cologne University of Music in Germany.
Mr. Chu currently teaches at multiple tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, including the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, the Education University of Hong Kong, and the School of Professional and Continuing Education of the University of Hong Kong, spanning from postgraduate to sub-degree levels. He was formerly a senior lecturer and music programme leader at The Open University of Hong Kong.
Mr. Chu holds advisory and examiner roles with Trinity College London, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and the Hong Kong Society for Art and Charity. He is also highly sought-after as a regular juror for regional and international music competitions.
In 2017, Mr. Chu was conferred the Associateship by the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM). He was subsequently elected Fellow by the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) in 2021.
