Faculty of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts

Violist Felix Ungar has performed as soloist and chamber musician at concert halls around the world. Recent engagements as soloist with the Wairua Sinfonietta in Auckland and chamber music at National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Ungar has given masterclasses at the Shanghai Conservatory, Beijing International Music Festival, Dragonfly Festival in Tianjin, Taipei National University of the Arts, Cleveland Institute of Music, the American Viola Society Festival at Oberlin, as well as International Viola Congresses in Wellington and Rotterdam, and on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. As reviewed in the Australian and New Zealand Viola Society Journal: “Each student at the end of their [masterclass] played a repeat performance of their music incorporating the advice of Felix and the difference in sound quality was incredible!” 

 

Ungar holds Bachelor and Master degrees from CIM, and a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music. Ungar also received a double-minor in East Asian Studies and Mandarin from Case Western Reserve University.

 

A former Fulbright Scholar in Taiwan, Ungar teaches at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and HKBU, and in summers at the Heifetz Institute and the Beijing International Music Festival and Academy. His students have matriculated at institutions including The Juilliard School and New England Conservatory among others and have been accepted to prestigious programs including the Heifetz Institute, IMS Prussia Cove, and the Perlman Music Program.
